If You Have God, You Have Everything: The Eternal Riches of the World to Come

The world constantly measures success by money, possessions, influence, education, and social status, and it is easy for people to believe that happiness and security are found in material things. Many spend their entire lives pursuing wealth, fame, and earthly achievements, hoping that these things will provide lasting satisfaction. Yet countless individuals who have attained worldly success still find themselves empty, fearful, and uncertain about the future. 

The Bible presents a completely different perspective. According to the Scriptures, the greatest treasure a person can possess is not wealth, power, or popularity. The greatest treasure is God Himself. When a person has God in his life through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he possesses something far more valuable than anything this world can offer. He possesses eternal life, divine fellowship, heavenly promises, and an inheritance that extends beyond this present age into the glorious world to come.

The simple truth is this: if you have God in your life, you have everything that truly matters, especially in the world to come.

The Temporary Nature of Earthly Possessions

One of the greatest mistakes people make is believing that earthly possessions can provide permanent security. Money can be lost. Businesses can fail. Properties can be destroyed. Health can deteriorate. Human relationships can change. Even life itself is temporary.

The Lord Jesus Christ warned about placing too much confidence in earthly treasures:

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal." (Matthew 6:19, KJV)

Everything that belongs to this present world is temporary. No matter how successful a person becomes, he cannot take his possessions with him when he dies. Death separates people from everything they have accumulated throughout their lives.

This reality should cause every person to ask an important question: What do I possess that will last forever? The biblical answer is clear. A relationship with God is the only possession that extends beyond the grave.

God Is the Greatest Treasure

The psalmist understood that God Himself was his greatest treasure. He declared:

"Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." (Psalm 73:25, KJV)

This statement reveals a heart that had discovered the surpassing worth of God. The psalmist recognized that nothing on earth could compare with the privilege of knowing and walking with the Lord.

Many people seek God's blessings while neglecting God Himself. They desire prosperity, protection, healing, and success, but the greatest blessing is not what God gives. The greatest blessing is God Himself. To know Him, love Him, worship Him, and enjoy fellowship with Him is the highest privilege any human being can experience.

When a believer has God, he possesses the source of all wisdom, strength, comfort, peace, and hope. Even when earthly circumstances become difficult, God remains faithful and unchanging.

The Promise of Eternal Life

One of the greatest blessings God gives to His people is eternal life. Through Jesus Christ, believers receive forgiveness of sins and the promise of everlasting life.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16, KJV)

Everlasting life is not merely endless existence. It is a life of fellowship with God that begins at salvation and continues forever. While physical death remains a reality in this present world, believers possess the assurance that death is not the end.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees the future resurrection of His people. Because Christ lives, believers shall live also.

This hope provides confidence in the face of uncertainty and courage in the face of suffering.

The World to Come

One of the most encouraging teachings in Scripture concerns the world to come. The Bible reveals that God's plan extends far beyond the present age.

"For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak." (Hebrews 2:5, KJV)

This remarkable verse teaches that the future world will not be administered by angels. Instead, God's redeemed people will have a significant role in His eternal kingdom.

From the beginning, God created mankind with authority and responsibility. Although sin disrupted God's original design, His purpose has not been abandoned. Through Jesus Christ, redeemed humanity will ultimately fulfill God's intention.

The world to come is a real future kingdom in which righteousness will prevail. Sin, corruption, injustice, and suffering will no longer dominate society. God's perfect rule will be established, and His people will enjoy His presence forever.

The Saints Shall Reign with Christ

The Bible repeatedly teaches that faithful believers will share in Christ's reign.

"If we suffer, we shall also reign with him." (2 Timothy 2:12, KJV)

The future kingdom is not merely a place where believers exist passively. Scripture indicates that God's people will participate in His administration and service.

This truth demonstrates the incredible dignity God intends for redeemed humanity. Through Christ, believers become heirs of God and participants in His eternal purposes.

What an amazing contrast! Many Christians may appear insignificant in the eyes of the world today. Some experience poverty, persecution, rejection, or hardship. Yet those same believers are heirs of a future kingdom that will endure forever.

Why the World Cannot Understand This Truth

The natural mind tends to focus exclusively on visible realities. Most people evaluate success according to temporary standards. As a result, they fail to recognize the eternal riches possessed by believers.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

"While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen." (2 Corinthians 4:18, KJV)

Faith enables believers to see beyond the temporary circumstances of life. Faith understands that present trials are preparing God's people for future glory.

The world may pity Christians who sacrifice comfort and convenience for their faith. However, from God's perspective, believers are investing in eternal realities that will never perish.

The Richest People on Earth

Who are the richest people on earth? The world might point to billionaires, celebrities, or powerful leaders. The Bible provides a different answer.

The richest people on earth are those who possess God. They have treasures that cannot be measured by financial statements or market values.

They possess forgiveness of sins. They possess peace with God. They possess the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. They possess the promises of Scripture. They possess eternal life. They possess an inheritance reserved in heaven.

These riches cannot be stolen, destroyed, devalued, or lost.

Even the poorest believer may be spiritually richer than the wealthiest unbeliever because eternal riches surpass temporary wealth.

God's Presence in Times of Trouble

Having God does not guarantee a life free from difficulties. Believers still face challenges, temptations, disappointments, sickness, and losses. However, they never face these trials alone.

God promises His presence with His people.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1, KJV)

When circumstances become overwhelming, God provides strength. When fear arises, God provides peace. When sorrow comes, God provides comfort. When confusion appears, God provides wisdom.

This ongoing relationship with God is one of the greatest blessings believers experience in this present life.

The Inheritance Reserved for Believers

The Apostle Peter described the inheritance awaiting God's people:

"To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away." (1 Peter 1:4, KJV)

Earthly inheritances can be lost through economic collapse, legal disputes, theft, or poor management. God's inheritance is different. It is incorruptible, undefiled, and eternal.

Nothing can diminish its value. Nothing can remove believers from God's promises. The inheritance reserved for God's people is secure because it rests upon God's faithfulness.

This future inheritance is part of what makes believers truly wealthy in God's sight.

Living in Light of Eternity

Understanding the world to come should influence how Christians live today. If eternity is real, then temporary pleasures should not become our highest priority. If God's kingdom is coming, then serving Him should be our greatest ambition.

Believers are called to invest their lives in things that have eternal value. This includes worshiping God, studying His Word, serving others, proclaiming the gospel, and living faithfully according to His commands.

The knowledge that a glorious future awaits God's people should encourage perseverance during difficult times.

No sacrifice made for Christ is wasted. No act of obedience goes unnoticed. God remembers the faithfulness of His people and will reward them according to His perfect wisdom.

If You Have God, You Truly Have Everything

The world constantly tells people that they need more money, more possessions, more recognition, and more success. Yet the Bible teaches a far greater truth. If you have God, you have everything that truly matters.

You have forgiveness. You have eternal life. You have divine guidance. You have heavenly promises. You have a future inheritance. You have a place in God's eternal kingdom. Most importantly, you have God Himself.

The present world is temporary, but the world to come is everlasting. Earthly riches fade away, but God's blessings endure forever. The believer's greatest treasure is not found in a bank account, a business, or a possession. It is found in a relationship with the living God through Jesus Christ.

Therefore, let every believer rejoice in this glorious truth: If you have God in your life, you have everything—both now and in the eternal world to come. The greatest riches belong not to those who possess the most earthly wealth, but to those who belong to God and will share forever in His glorious kingdom.
